Diethelm pioneered tourism in South East Asia as the region’s first Destination Management Company. The DMC business was started in 1957 to service European clients arriving on Swiss Air’s inagural flight from Zurich to Bangkok, for which Diethelm was the officially appointed DMC.
When you travel Thailand today hoteliers will still talk of how the first clients they ever received from overseas, were from Diethelm. Since then and over the last 60 years Diethelm has organized travel for Europeans throughout the wider South East Asia region, now with a network of 24 fully owned and insured offices in 12 Asian countries.
Diethelm remains the only DMC to have been honoured by the late King of Thailand with a Royal Warrant of Appointment, issued to companies that have shown exceptional commitment to the social and economic development of Thailand. Symbolized by the golden Royal Garuda (pictured) greeting those who visit the Diethelm headquarters in Bangkok.
2017 not only sees Diethelm Travel celebrate our 60th anniversary, but also coincides with the opening of the company’s first dedicated North America sales office. Most ask why it’s taken 60 years for Diethelm to introduce itself to the US market. The answer as with most things is that timing is everything!
